Add a Little Western Bohemian Style with the IOD Desperado Transfer

Peanut butter and jelly, peaches and cream, macaroni and cheese… you feeling a theme ( besides the fact that I *might* be writing this on an empty stomach 🤣 )? How about Western Bohemian?

No time now? Pin this post for later.

Need to find an IOD retailer near you? Go to our store locator.

If you’re new to the combo, I guarantee it’s better than peanut butter and oatmeal. Then again ANYTHING is better than peanut butter and oatmeal!!! 🙊 (Ask me how I know… when Josie was a teenager she’d experiment with recipes and make our brother, Andy, and I eat them. This was NOT her finest combo, but like anything else… practice makes perfect and she’s now a fabulous and intuitive cook! You know what we’re always telling you, it’s all about the reps.)

But I digress, my point is — we LOVE the Western Bohemian interior design style for SO. MANY. REASONS! The way the Western aesthetic taps into the essence of established roots, while the Bohemian vibe appeals to the free-spirited wanderer.

It really is a beautiful contrast (or should I say compliment) — and it’s the inspiration for our new Desperado Transfer!

All About Western Bohemian Style & the IOD Desperado Transfer

Before jumping in, I would remiss if I didn’t give credit where MUCH credit is due!

Some of you know that Maddy, our Director of Operations ( the one who keeps Jos and me in line ) is Josie’s daughter.  Well, she’s the inspiration behind the new Desperado Transfer and was integral in the design process! This is her vibe ALL. THE. WAY! She’s a rodeo riding, leather workin’, baby totin’, mom bossin’, QUEEN!! Ok, obviously I’m a huge fan of my niece, but bottom line, you can thank her for bringing this interior design style into the latest IOD transfer collection!

4 Essential Elements of Western Bohemian Decor Style

When we developed the Desperado Transfer, we focused on four aspects of Western Bohemian decor.

Element 1: Traditional Western and Southwestern imagery

Think cactus plants, Native American patterns, bison imagery, and animal skulls (both plain and embellished)…

Element 2: Subtle touches of feminity juxtaposed against the harshness of the desert climate

Think blossoms on a skull; Visual elements that invoke feelings of thriving despite (or perhaps because of) adversity; Symbols of resilience and strength. (Hmmmm… like “iron” and “orchid” … it all makes sense now!)

Element 3: Raw and organic materials are woven throughout

Think chunky knit blankets, nubby linen curtains, woven baskets, leather, cowhide, and rustic woods showing their natural grains…

Element 4: Neutral colors with warm undertones

Think light, bright, and fresh feel grounded by deep rich hues of russet red and muted plums

I love this mood board and the blog post. I want to be this person. My house is still a cycle of boxes in from the garage, empty boxes back out, but these images and projects make me daydream!!

Loved seeing all of these creative works done with Desperado. I wish I had the imagination demonstrated. I always have to see someone else’s ideas. Thanks for all you do to inspire us.

FINALL! Some southwest items for those of us in NM, etc!

  5. Susan Hendrix on April 22, 2022 at 3:00 pm

I don’t have Southwest decor, but I love these new IOD transfers. Now I’m tempted to change at least one room in my house to be southwestern.

I just can’t see it in my modern world. Art Deco? Perhaps.

  7. Linda on April 22, 2022 at 7:18 pm

Finally after 2 years I know what I want my bedroom done in. This!!! My houses have always been very masculine and I have been looking to add some softness to my bedroom. Love the Western look but adding a little flower child ( guess I gave my age away) gives me excitement to finish painting the furniture. On a get up and go mood now. Thank you for the wonderful ideas. You girls are wonderful! Hugs!

This is beautiful! I love the graphic transfers, any chance you will be doing a set with just the trim graphics? I know at one time you had the trim pieces but they had a background, these don’t and would look great on so many things…and yeah, I could stamp but I stink at stamping! LOVE all your designs!!

Hi Gail! We can definitely add this to our suggestions! So so happy that you are loving the designs❤️❤️
