3 Quick & Easy Handmade Mother’s Day Gift Ideas

Wait, wha’?!?! Mother’s Day is THIS WEEKEND?

It might have snuck up on you this year, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have time to make something beautiful for your mom!

Here are a few of our favorite quick and easy handmade gifts that you can give your mom for Mother’s Day.

No time now? Pin this post for later.

Monogrammed Pillow Cover

A few years ago, I made this pillow cover for my sweet mother-in-law. I used an inexpensive Ikea pillow cover, IOD stamps, and some chalk or mineral-based paint.

Stamped monogrammed pillow as handmade Mother's Day gift

Monogrammed gifts, like this pillow cover, are a favorite of mine because they’re an easy way to create a classy, timeless look and they complement a variety of decor styles.

And when I say easy, I really mean EASY! Once I had all the supplies assembled, the pillow cover only took me 5 minutes to make.

Watch the one minute video below (yes, just a minute!) to see all the steps.

Handmade Pendant Jewelry

There are lots of different ways to make handmade jewelry, but here’s an easy one you may have forgotten about.

Vintage DIY pendant necklace and bracelet for handmade Mother's Day gift

Porcelain relic pendants can be worn as a necklace or bracelet. These handmade beauties give a vintage, boho vibe to any outfit and are pretty enough to wear for any occasion.

You’ll quickly see how easy it is to make a bunch for your mom so she’ll have a different one to wear every day of the week!

This project uses the IOD Knob Topper stamps, some polymer clay, and alcohol-based inks. Click here to read a step-by-step guide on how to make these porcelain relic pendants and, while you’re there, you can also watch the quick video tutorial.

Vintage Flow Blue Pot

Imagine giving your mom a gorgeous, one-of-a-kind “antique” flow blue pot.

This one is my absolute favorite! (Who am I kidding? You know we loved doing all these projects!)

But really, this one is “must do” for your mom because the end product is simply breathtaking and all you need to start is a plain terracotta pot.

We used stamps from the Rose Toile set, but you could use whichever stamps you have on hand, and a chalk style paint. Click here to read all the steps to make this perfectly moss-covered, flow blue china style pot.

What are you making your mom this Mother’s Day? We’d love to see. Please share a picture with us on social media.

        Good morning Ladies ,
I need IOD products ! I searched for the ‘stockist’ in Prineville, Oregon and its not really a shop, and what they do have is not what I’m looking for.
What I’m getting at, is there anyway I can buy products or see a catalog and buy directly from you?
Thanks for your time looking forward to an answer,
        Gig

Such great ideas. Wish my Mom were here with me. Honestly, I could have painted a paper bag and she would’ve loved it. Maybe I should make one for myself!!

Can I use the IOD clay for the pendant project?

    • IOD Customer Service IOD Customer Service on May 20, 2020 at 4:28 pm

      Hi Julie,

Thank you for your patience. No- we have only used polymer clay- we don’t expect air dry clay to have enough tensile strength without a support base.

Hi! I learn so much from from your tutorial videos and can’t wait to try some out! Can you please tell me what colors of Tim Holtz Alcohol Inks you used on the stamped pendant jewelry. I absolutely love the way they turned out! Thanks so much for your guidance, inspiration and products!

      Hi Beth,

Thank you for your interest. It has been awhile since this project was done so we are not exactly sure on the colors used. But you can check out the original tutorial here. There are some tips and tricks on getting the color lighter or darker.
      Happy Creating!
