Classical Cameo

Designed by Annie Sloan, artist and inventor of Chalk Paint®, Classical Cameo references the ornamental carvings found on the statues, buildings and furniture of Ancient Greece and Rome. Classical Cameo celebrates quintessential Greco-Roman motifs such as laurel leaves, oval cameos and profile portraiture.

With so many florals on the market, Annie Sloan aims to disrupt the norm by introducing a design that skews more masculine, shedding light on an underrated and often overlooked style. This inlay features an array of cameos in various sizes, where the stern visage of a traditional Roman man is thoughtfully balanced by the gentler profile of a Roman woman. Beyond cameos, the design also incorporates striking borders that can elevate not only furniture but also smaller decor items—showcasing the wide range of possibilities for this versatile design. Melding sophistication with a playful and approachable vibe, this inlay offers a fresh take on a traditional and classic motif.

For colors, consider channeling the classic elegance of Roman and Greek aesthetics by opting for rich hues like black and terracotta (Annie Sloan Primer Red and Athenian Black). These colors not only capture the timeless appeal of ancient cultures but also provide a dramatic backdrop that enhances the inlay designs.

These would also look lovely in neutrals like white, cream, and grey (Annie Sloan Old Ochre, Old White, and Paris Grey).
