Looking to add a touch of charm to your wall decor or create a wonderful handcrafted gift? This delightful gold moulded wall hanging is sure to impress and is surprisingly easy to make with just a few simple steps.

In this tutorial, you will learn how to cast moulds in quick-set resin, trim and arrange them, and add a beautiful gold leaf finish. We’ll also show you how to securely attach the hanging hardware using UV resin glue. PRO TIP: When working with UV resin glue, wear gloves to protect your hands and apply in layers to ensure a strong bond.

For this project, we'll be using the Bows and Felicite mould to create an elegant composition. If you have extra resin, keep another mould handy, like the Harper mould for small letters, to avoid wastage and set aside for a future project.

Ready to get started? Follow the steps below and watch the video for a detailed visual guide. We’d love to know how you plan to use this beautiful piece – whether it’s for your own wall or as a special gift for someone else.

Step-by-Step Guide:

Step 1 -  Mix Your Resin

Begin by mixing your fast-cast resin according to the package instructions. Ours called for a one-to-one ratio. Using a weighted scale can help you measure the exact amounts needed and mix.

Prepare the Surface

Step 2 -  Pour Your Castings

Pour the resin into the Bows and Felicite mould, filling it to the micro rim edge. Make sure to get one of the long boughs in the Felicite mould (this will be the base of your swag) and lots of florals of different sizes. We had several extras that we didn’t use, but they were handy to have as we developed our layout. Set any extras you don’t use aside for future projects.

Step 3 -  Remove Castings Once Cured

Allow the resin to set. When it's ready to be removed, it will turn white and become fully opaque. Gently pop the pieces out of the moulds. You’ll want to remove it while it is still slightly pliable.

Step 4 -  Trim the Bough

Trim one end of the long bough piece to create a flat edge, making a flat edge to nestle against the knot of your bow. The resin should still be pliable when you remove it (as long as you don’t wait too long), making it easier to trim with scissors.

Step 5 -  Arrange The Pieces

It’s time to start composing. We liked the proportion of the smallest flowers, with accents of the roses scattered throughout, so that is how we structured our arrangement. We used a reference image, feel free to use ours or find one you like better on Pinterest or Google.

Step 6 -  Gluing the Pieces

When you’re satisfied with your layout, take your UV resin glue and adhere. You’ll use the UV penlight that comes in the kit, and it cures in seconds. This was our first time using the kit, and we were happily surprised at the ease and results. Some of them needed a little extra glue. At first, we went in with the gorilla glue but ultimately glued our fingers together! So we gave up on that and went back to the UV glue, just dribbling on additional layers and curing as necessary until everything felt solid. We liked this approach much better!

Although not shown in this video, you should wear protective gloves when working with UV glue.

Continue until you’re satisfied with your piece.

Step 7 -  Securing the Wall Hanging

To make this into a wall hanging, we decided to add an eyelet to make hanging easier. Alternatively, you could just use two nails and balance on the bow loops, but we have trouble getting artwork level when using two nails. Choose the approach that works best for you!

Because of the spacing of the bow loops, it was too difficult to screw in the eyelet, so we laid it down and just put a little blob of uv glue and cured it. It worked perfectly!

Step 8 -  Painting with Gold Leaf

Because of the almost-instant curing time of the glue, this makes it easy to move on to paint! We chose gold leaf paint and a soft brush to really get into all those fine details. Take your time and move the piece in different angles so you make sure you get into every nook and cranny. Protect your work surface to avoid messy cleanups. Allow the paint to dry completely before handling.

Your wall art is all set to be hung, or added to a gallery wall for that perfect vintage touch!
