DIY A French Country Urn with Artisan Lynne Brundage

IOD Products Needed:

Other Supplies:

  • Pink Chalk Type Paint*
  • Texturizing Powder
  • Dark Glaze
  • White Chalk Type Paint*

*we used a chalk-type paint in this tutorial, but there are many brands and types of paint, talk to your stockist to learn which one is right for you!

Step by Step Guide

STEP ONE: PREP THE URN

Lynne began by mixing up a warm, dusty pink base coat. To add depth and character, she stirred in a bit of texturizing powder until it reached that perfect brownie-batter consistency.

Using a scruffy brush, she dabbed and built up the texture layer by layer until the urn looked as though it had been loved for generations.

STEP TWO: CAST & APPLY IOD MOULDS

Using a gorgeous mix of the Victoriana, Laurel, Trimmings 3, and Classic Elements Moulds, she began measuring, casting, and thoughtfully planning her layout. By combining focal points with elegant trims, Lynne created a design that feels cohesive yet delightfully organic.

STEP THREE: PRIME & GLAZE

Once her project has dried for 24 to 48 hours, Lynne applies a primer. This essential step ensures the glaze won't be absorbed, enhancing the detail and dimension of her piece.

Using different colors and a combination of brushing and wiping techniques, Lynne adds glaze for a rich, complex finish. She highlights the textured areas with a dry brush, revealing their intricate details and adding a mineral finish that resembles a vintage urn.

Lynne reminds us that the best part of creating is exploring, playing, and letting your imagination lead the way. 💕 She encourages everyone to embrace their creativity and experiment with IOD Moulds to craft beautiful vintage pieces.
