If you've ever walked past an antique shop window, spotted a gorgeous gilded frame, and thought, 'I could make that, ' this project is about to prove you very, very right. 😍

Our IOD Artisan Alena used the Cadré Mould and the gorgeous Marché des Fleurs Transfer to create a decorative framed piece as if it were pulled straight from a centuries-old European manor. But good news, you don't have to wait to find the perfect piece; you can just create it yourself.

She started by dry-fitting her Cadré Mould casts around the frame first to find the perfect composition on her wood blanks. It's a step that makes such a difference when you're working with ornate moulded details and helps with any second-guessing. From there, she built up the most gorgeous antique oil painting effect using a glaze mixture with concentrated pigments, blending dark green on one side and mossy green on the other, right in the center. We are obsessed with the depth and richness it creates.

Gold leaf around the edges catches the light against the weathered finish beautifully, and an antiquing glaze ties it all together with that gracefully aged quality. Then the Marché des Fleurs Transfer steps in as the centerpiece. The delicate botanicals, timeless European florals, and that fine-art detail IOD is known for. The finished piece feels storied and full of character. Not bad for a Saturday afternoon. 😅

The finished piece works beautifully as gallery wall art, in an entryway, a living room, or honestly anywhere you want a little old-world elegance to show up and do its thing. See a short tutorial of Alena's creation on our Instagram!
