Marché des Fleurs (that's French for "flower market," and yes, it's as dreamy as it sounds) is a transfer that makes you genuinely giddy the moment you open the pad. Inspired by 19th-century botanical illustrations that are hand-painted by French naturalist Etienne Denisse, it's lush, it's detailed, and it's designed to make you feel like an actual florist arranging blooms at a Parisian market stall.

Here's the best part: it practically arranges itself.

The pad comes with four pre-composed base bouquets. These are your starting points, already gorgeous, just waiting to be placed. From there, you add pages of individual floral sprigs, berries, and greenery to build your arrangement outward. Then finish with delicate butterflies to complete the composition.

That's the whole system. Start with your base, build your bouquet, add your accents. Easy, beautiful, and genuinely hard to stop once you get going. 😍 Let's dive in!

What's in the Pad

Before we get into the how, let's talk about what you're working with. Here's what you've got:

  • Several pre-composed base bouquets - full, lush floral arrangements ready to anchor your design
  • Multiple pages of individual floral sprigs, stems, berries, and greenery - your building materials
  • Delicate butterflies to accent and complete your finished composition

The design is intentionally built as a layered system, which means no two finished pieces ever have to look the same. The base bouquets give you a confident starting point while everything else gives you the freedom to make it yours.

Step 1: Choose Your Base Bouquet

Lay all of your sheets out flat and take a look at the full spread. You'll notice four pre-composed arrangements. These are your base bouquets, and one of them is your starting point.

Once you've chosen, cut your base bouquet from the sheet. Keep the plastic film backing on as you'll want it while you audition it's placement on your surface.

Psst! Here's a little quick Pro Tip:  Lay your cut bouquet (still on its plastic film) directly on your surface and move it around before you commit to anything. Tape it lightly in place, step back, and take a photo of the placement you love before you apply a single thing. Future you will be so grateful.

Step 2: Place Your Base and Start Building

With your base bouquet positioned where you want it, go ahead and apply it to your surface using your transfer rub stick. Work slowly and in sections, and burnish well, especially through any fine detail. Those little edges make a big difference in the finished piece.

Once your base is down, the real fun begins!

Pull the individual sprigs from your sheets. Pick florals and stems in colors that feel natural alongside your base, and start laying them around the outer edges of your arrangement. The sprigs are designed to drift a little further out from the center, adding volume and that gorgeous just-gathered-from-the-market feel.

A few things to keep in mind as you build:

Pull sprigs in similar tones to your base first, then add contrast as you go.

Let the sprigs breathe. They don't need to be tight against the base.

If the stem of the sprig or berries is too long, cut at the "point" of where the sprig would come out of the bouquet so it looks layered.

Remember to keep everything on its film while you audition your placement, so you can shuffle freely before committing.

Wild and imperfect is the goal. This should feel like a gathered arrangement.

Keep layering, stepping back, and adjusting until it clicks. You'll know when it's right.

Step 3: Add Your Butterflies and Voilá!

Once your bouquet feels full and balanced, it's time for the finishing touch.

Tuck your butterflies in wherever feels natural. They especially look good hovering above a bloom, resting on a stem, or drifting off to the side of the composition. They're small, so they have a lot of flexibility. Even one or two makes the whole piece feel complete and alive.

PS. They're great for covering little mishaps! 🤭

Apply them the same way as everything else. Rub your transfer stick, slow and steady, and burnish well. Then step back and admire what you just built, because it's going to be stunning.

What Surfaces Work Well with Marche de Fleurs?

One of the most-asked questions we get about IOD Decor Transfers is: what can I actually put these on? The short answer is a lot of things. Marche de Fleurs is especially beautiful on:

Painted furniture - dressers, nightstands, armoires, side tables

Painted or sealed wood surfaces, including IOD Wood Blanks

Walls, especially in a vignette corner or a powder room

Smaller decor items like trays, frames, and candle holders

The key with any surface is that it needs to be clean, dry, and properly prepped. Raw and unfinished wood isn't a great starting point on its own, as the transfer needs a sealed or painted surface to adhere well and really last! Transfers perform beautifully over chalk-type paints and most topcoats. Our Back to the Basics with IOD Transfers Blog walks through everything you need to know. But, if you still have questions about your specific surface, your local IOD Stockist is genuinely the best resource. They know this stuff inside and out.
