Would you dare to cut apart an IOD Transfer? 😨

Don't worry! Lynne from Ellen J Goods will guide you through the process, demonstrating how to achieve various looks using a single transfer on different colored surfaces. This technique might seem daunting when it involves cutting a single, large transfer for furniture, but Lynne's instructions make it accessible and easy to follow.

About the Project

Join Lynne as she creates six decorative risers using the Joie Des Roses Transfer on antique barn wood beams. You can also use any scrap wood you have. For the bases, she repurposes old candle cups and spindle pieces—search your home for potential materials to avoid unnecessary purchases. We're all about upcycling!

We know IOD transfers are an investment, but they are easily worth it when you can get this sort of mileage from one! Plus, you can rest easy knowing the quality of our transfers is top-notch, with minimal halos.

Step By Step Written Tutorial

1. Cut your scrap wood to size (about 7” x 15”, but adjust according to taste). Lynne offers a variety of sizes for inspiration.

2. Choose and stain the pieces you choose to use for the base of your risers.

3. Paint your wood in your chosen color. Apply several coats for even coverage, sanding between each to smooth the grain and enhance transfer adherence. If your paint lacks a sealant, finish with a top coat.

4. Once your project is entirely dry, apply your Joie Des Rose Transfer. Cut the transfer as needed and keep the scraps for covering any small mistakes or adding extra detail. Lynne uses additional motifs like butterflies from the IOD Entomology Transfer for additional flare and to cover up any “oopsies” you may encounter.

TIP: To get a distressed look, take worn sandpaper to run over your transfer to create your desired distress.

5. Now burnish your transfer using the back side of the plastic carrier paper your transfer came on. You’ll rub it around quickly on the surface of your project with light pressure to ensure your transfer has a good bond on your surface.

6. Ok, time to seal these beauties up! Seal the piece with your preferred top coat..

How To Display the Risers

These charming risers are perfect for displaying centerpieces, candles, or creating small decorative arrangements in your home. They add a vibrant touch of color and pattern.

We love the way Lynne demonstrates how to get the maximum impact from one transfer and the different looks you can get by mixing up the background color. Which one is your favorite? Let us know in the Creative Tribe.
