Here are the steps to turn your plain mirror into a work of art:

Step 1: Prep the mirror

Start by wiping down the mirror to remove any dirt. Then, use a white chalk paint in the brand of your choice, which requires minimal to no prep, to paint the mirror. Allow two coats with two hours of dry time in between. Since this is a metal piece, wet distress it instead of sanding it, using a damp cloth with warm water. This will ensure that the black finish underneath the paint remains visible and provides some contrast.

Step 2: Apply Clear Wax

Once the mirror has dried, apply clear wax in the brand of your choice to it. This process is simple, and you can buff the mirror off after 30 minutes.

Step 3: Clean the mirror

Use a glass cleaner to prep the mirror. Jamie uses sprayway glass cleaner because the foam sticks to the glass and prevents drips from occurring on a vertical surface. There is no need to tape off the mirror as it is easier and faster to scrape it off.

Step 4: Add the transfer

Next, add the transfer. You should know that this is an off-label use as transfers are meant for surfaces that can be sealed. However, IOD transfers work well on mirrors, and they can be used even without sealing. The Midnight Garden Transfer used in this tutorial was colorful and fun. You might need to trim it to fit your mirror.

With these four simple steps, you can turn your plain mirror into a unique piece of art. This DIY project is a great way to add some personality to your space while also showing off your artistic skills.
