Our lovely friend Michelle Phippard wowed us with enchanting snow globes made with our Snow Globes Mould. The mould includes many snowy scene details plus extra decorative bits, so you can play with both the inside and the outside until each one feels like a tiny winter wonderland.

In this tutorial, Michelle demonstrates how she uses both quick-set resin and clear resin to build glistening scenes—right down to the “snow” and finishing touches on the base. There’s even a fun little twist tucked into her process that makes these feel extra special.

These would be beautiful tucked into a garland along a mantel or on a fireplace hearth. You could even add a little eyelet, and suddenly you have heirloom vintage ornaments. Grab your Snow Globes Mould, some resin, and your favorite paints from your local or online stockist. ❄️💕

Step by Step Guide:How To Layer Resin in the Snow Globes Mould

STEP ONE: PREP RESIN & CAST TINY SNOW GLOBE SCENES

Michelle starts by highlighting one of her favorite resin tips, which is to use the milliliter markings on your IOD Moulds to measure carefully so you’re not wasting product. Once the resin is mixed according to the package instructions, she pours it into the moulds using a silicone cup or syringe—whatever gives you the most control.

After about ten minutes (or as directed by your resin brand), the castings are ready to pop out.

Step 1

STEP TWO: PAINTING SNOW GLOBE SCENES

Once your resin pieces are cured, it’s time for paint!

Michelle suggests using your favorite colors on all those tiny details, then finishing with a dry brush of white to give everything a snow-dusted look.

Step 2

STEP THREE: WORK WITH CLEAR RESIN

Michelle starts building those dreamy snow globe scenes with clear resin. Remember to use gloves and follow your resin’s instructions closely. She fills the mould only partway at first so there’s room to tuck the painted pieces in later.

For the “snow,” Michelle sprinkles silver German glass glitter in one globe and faux snow made from finely cut iridescent plastic in the other.

Step 3

STEP FOUR: APPLY SNOW GLOBE SCENES

Now for the best part—building those darling snowy scenes. ❄️

Remember, your snow globe scene goes in upside down, so the pieces you want at the front of the globe should be set in the resin first. Clear resin gives you a generous working time, so you can nudge things around, adjust your layers, and play with the composition until it feels just right. Add a little more German glass glitter and faux snow, and let it dry overnight.

Step 4

STEP FIVE: PAINT YOUR SNOW GLOBE

Finally, it’s time to dress up the base so your snow globe looks every bit as special as the scene inside.

Michelle likes to start with a dark undercoat, then lightly brush on metallic bronze to catch the raised details. You could just as easily reach for silver, copper, or rose gold—each one brings its own festive shimmer and personality to the piece.
