How To Arrange Different Size Botanicals from Madeleine to Upcycle Craft Storage
If your craft room has been feeling a little…chaotic lately (been there 😅), Sonnet Uhlenbrauck is about to make you feel so much relief. Our lovely IOD Artisan shares a practical and seriously pretty way to get organized with thrifted finds.
Sonnet takes ordinary storage pieces and gives them a whole new story using the Madeleine Transfer from the 2026 Spring Collection, rich black paint, and gold gilding wax. These organizers are beautiful enough to leave out on display, and functional enough to keep you creating without digging through piles of craft supplies.
And the thrifting finds in this one are such a happy little win! Sonnet picked up two handcrafted boxes and a charming wooden caddy that became the perfect homes for her IOD supplies. One crate will be for moulds, one for stamps, and a portable caddy for all the extras that like to wander around the craft table.

Step by Step Guide: How To Arrange Different Size Botanicals from Madeleine to Upcycle Craft Storage
STEP ONE: PREP & PAINT YOUR BOXES
Sonnet’s creative journey began with a vision that evolved as the project progressed. She initially imagined using vibrant turquoise, but opted for a sleek black to complement her creative space and make the transfers pop. Using a black paint that requires no top coat, she applied two coats to each piece.
STEP TWO: ARRANGE & APPLY TRANSFERS
Sonnet initially planned to mix a few transfers, but ended up going for a more cohesive look with the Madeleine Transfer. If transfers feel a little intimidating at first, don’t worry, they’re surprisingly easy once you try. Just place your transfer where you want it, burnish with the transfer stick, and voilà. By playing with different scales and little details, she layered and applied transfer bits to dress up all three pieces.
STEP THREE: A FEW FINAL DETAILS
Next, Sonnet brushed gold gilding wax over the hardware for a rich finishing touch. Once all your transfers are down, seal the whole piece with your favorite water-based topcoat to protect the work.
To make her caddy extra functional, she added three clay-painted mason jars in a pretty purple hue, sealed them with a topcoat, and finished with a bit of twine.
Sonnet’s proof that organization doesn’t have to be boring. All you need is a few thrifted basics, some thoughtful layers, and suddenly your “storage” is pretty enough to leave out on display. If your craft room has been begging for a little refresh, let this be your friendly nudge. Because truly…getting organized can be just as charming as it is functional.
