This DIY wall art has the sweetest blend of soft, feminine details. Just look at those delicate borders from Flora & Vine and the ruffly romantic blooms from Sarah Featon’s Botanicals. This piece feels right at home in an English country cottage or tucked into a French flea market style nook.

One of our favorite things about this project is that you can use thrifted frames! Thrifted frames are everywhere (seriously, every thrift store seems to be well stocked with them), and if thrifting isn’t your thing, a simple frame from the craft store works just as well.

The beautifully detailed botanical studies and joyful florals make this perfect for handmade gifts, wall galleries, or adorning a quiet corner of your home with a little vintage sophistication.

You'll learn how to get those crisp stamped corners just right, so you’ll feel confident creating your own vintage artwork in no time. 🥰 Grab your IOD supplies from your local stockist, and let's DIY!!

IOD Products Needed:

Other Supplies:

  • 8 x 8 Frame with a matte, and an image opening of 5 x 5

  • Water Color Paper or Mixed Media

  • Spray Sealer

Step-by-Step Guide

STEP ONE: GATHER YOUR SUPPLIES

We have a fun idea for that plain white frame you’ve got stashed away! We grabbed one from the craft store and skipped painting it to keep things quick and simple.

Just a heads-up, the drawback to doing it this way is that the ink will take much longer to dry, since it isn’t settling into a chalk paint that wants to receive it. So the choice is yours!

STEP TWO: STAMP YOUR FRAME

We grabbed our Stone Grey decor ink and picked one of the floral stamps to frame the edges with a pretty repeat pattern on all four sides. If the design overlapped in any spots, we wiped away the extra ink before stamping.

Pro Tip: If you have stamp masks on hand, they’re perfect for this, but we were working with test samples, so we made it work.

Once you’ve stamped all the edges, resist the urge to fuss with it! Let the ink dry completely, or you’ll end up with smudges. Patience is key for those crisp, clean details. 😉

STEP THREE: STAMP THE MATTE

For the matte, we used that same Stone Grey decor ink and began stamping from one end, working our way across. If we were to do it again, we’d stamp from both ends inward to help space out the pattern more evenly across the whole piece.

Since we couldn’t get a full stamp right in the center, we simply wiped away the excess ink and let it softly blend with the floral impressions on either side. Once you're done, set it aside and let it dry completely before moving on.

STEP FOUR: CREATE YOUR ARTWORK

For the artwork, we started with a piece of watercolor paper and gave it a good coat of spray water-based sealer. Don’t skip this step! Transfers need that sealed surface to really grip. Once it was dry, we applied a gorgeous floral spray from Sarah Featon’s Botanicals Transfer, then trimmed the paper down to size.

STEP FIVE: REASSEMBLE YOUR FRAME

Reassemble your frame once everything is dry and enjoy your artwork! 🥰
