Lalique-Inspired Frosted Glass Using Resin & IOD Moulds
Could you imagine a more ethereal thrift flip from the simplest thrifted finds? This is a brand-new technique for IOD. One we haven’t seen done quite like this before!
Leave it to IOD Artisan Jonathon Marc Mendes to take a glass vase and fruit bowl and upcycle them into an Art Nouveau–inspired lamp with the dreamiest frosted-glass finish, inspired by the work of René Lalique. Born in 1860, René Lalique was a French jeweler and glass designer, best known for creating art glass, perfume bottles, vases, jewelry, chandeliers, clocks, and even automobile hood ornaments—such a rich reference point for this Lalique-inspired project.
Using resin and the Tulips Mould from our 2026 Spring Collection, Jonathon creates his castings, then softens everything with spray frosting for a luminous, diffused look. You’ll also see his clever use of UV resin glue for a strong, clean hold, plus a remote-controlled puck light tucked neatly into the base.
If you love a project that takes an ordinary thrift find and gives it a little grandeur, you’re going to have so much fun with this one.
Grab your IOD goodies from your local stockist and follow along—this one is full of techniques you’ll reach for again and again. If you’re not sure where to find a stockist near you, use our store locator. 💕

Step by Step Guide: Lalique-Inspired Frosted Glass Using Resin & IOD Moulds
STEP ONE: CAST RESIN MOULDS
Using the Tulips Mould from the 2026 Spring Collection, Jonathon creates a set of beautifully detailed castings in clear resin—a perfect choice since it creates the most striking contrast once the frosted-glass effect is added later. He carefully measures and mixes the resin according to the manufacturer’s instructions, taking his time so the castings cure clearly.
STEP TWO: ASSEMBLING ALL THE ELEMENTS
Before anything gets glued down, Jonathon does a careful dry fit—mapping the whole layout and using decorator’s tape as a guide. To attach the castings to glass, he uses UV resin glue for its strong hold and anti-yellowing benefits, then cures it with a UV light for a quick, secure set.
STEP THREE: ASSEMBLE THE LAMP BASE
To turn the vase into a lamp, a puck light is glued into the base using some E 6,000 glue. The puck light is remote-controlled, battery-operated, and completely discreet. It’s hidden inside the frosted-glass pedestal so the glow highlights all those intricate details without distracting from the finished look.
STEP FOUR: ADDING FROSTED TOUCHES
To get that frosted-glass look, inspired by the work of René Lalique, Jonathon uses a spray frosting on both the vase and the pedestal, building the finish up in light, even layers. He shares a few important tips for gradually layering so the frost stays smooth and consistent. For instance, spray frosting is a little bit deceiving because it goes on completely transparent, and then as it dries, it becomes more opaque. So build up your layers slowly on the surface of the glass, allowing the drying time in between. That soft, diffused finish is what helps the light spread beautifully across the lamp and makes all the details glow.
Jonathon’s Art Nouveau–inspired lamp is such a beautiful reminder that a humble thrift find can become truly high-end decor through creativity and craftsmanship. This project not only pays homage to René Lalique but also offers inspiration for those eager to try a thrift flip of their own.
