The Story Behind the Design: Sarah Featon’s Botanicals Transfer

One of our greatest joys is encouraging women to embrace their creative identity. So when we discovered Sarah Featon’s legacy and breathtaking watercolor botanicals, we were inspired. ❤️
Sarah Featon and her husband shared a deep admiration for the natural beauty of New Zealand, particularly its native blooms, which were often overlooked. At the time, many believed that New Zealand was “destitute of native flowers.” Sarah and Edward set out to prove otherwise.
And prove it they did.
In 1889, they published The Art Album of New Zealand Flora, a breathtaking collection of Sarah’s botanical paintings paired with Edward’s written descriptions. Their goal was to celebrate the abundant beauty of New Zealand’s botanicals. The book was the first full-color art book ever published in New Zealand, praised as a remarkable “colonial work of art.”
It’s an honor to share a piece of her legacy through Sarah Featon’s Botanicals Transfer. This set is all about those abundant, joyful floral studies that feel playful yet delicate and refined. These bountiful blooms are so captivating on small decor. We especially love them on tin vases turned into hanging planters or tucked into mixed media journals with adornments from the Ephemeral Type Stamp and Apothecary Labels.
Sarah Featon’s Botanicals lends itself wonderfully to English country, French flea market, and traditional cottage styles. You'll have so much versatility with this collection. We hope you love her as much as we do! 🩷
