Thrift Flip: A Festive Trivet Upcycle with the Autumn Blessings Stamp

You guys are going to love this one! We took a thrifted trivet (yep, the little ceramic tile kind set inside a cast iron frame) and gave it a festive upcycle with the Autumn Blessings Stamp. This one feels so homey, traditional, and practical, which is a total win in our book! It would be beautiful on the Thanksgiving table, and when it’s not in use, it can hang on the wall as darling seasonal decor. 🦃
We could’ve kept it simple with chalk paint and a good seal, but we decided to push things a little further with porcelain paint. Was it a tad extra? Definitely. Was it worth it? Absolutely. 😉 It gave us the perfect smooth base for stamping, plus the safety net of being able to wipe things clean if we needed a do-over.
Gather your stamps and ink from a local or online stockist, and that thrifted find you’ve been holding onto. Let’s make something beautiful together! ❤️

Step-by-Step Guide
STEP ONE: PREP YOUR SURFACE FOR STAMPING
We started with a thrifted trivet—a little ceramic tile nestled inside a cast iron frame. Now, you could just brush on some chalk paint and seal it well, but we decided to take things a step further and try porcelain paint that sets when baked. Supposedly, it’s even dishwasher safe… though the cast iron frame isn’t making it anywhere near the dishwasher. 😉 Probably a bit extra, but hey, sometimes it’s fun to push it!
To start, we used a sponge brush to cover the tile, then switched to an IOD Paint Blade to smooth things out with minimal streaks. After letting it dry for 24 hours, it was ready for baking—300 degrees for 35 minutes does the trick.

STEP TWO: STAMP YOUR SURFACE
We rolled a rich brown chalk paint onto our turkey and florals with a brayer, arranging them into a darling wreath that rises up from the bottom. To fill the top, we stamped out “Grateful” using our Apothecary Stamp. A thin mount or even the carrier sheet that comes with the set works perfectly to help line things up. Press down evenly, lift carefully, and voila! If a letter looks a little faint, like our “G” was in the first impression, just reapply your paint and give it another go.
Here’s a little perk of using the porcelain paint underlayer: it wiped clean when we needed to redo our turkey! His first impression didn’t quite capture those facial features, so we gave him a second chance, and he came out looking just right.
